Mammoth Resorts

FROM BEGINNING TO WINNING AND BACK AGAIN

That’s right, from parking lot van life and first chair at daybreak to the Olympic podium—and now all the way back to the home mountain again—we’re stoked to announce Shaun White as an investor in Mammoth Resorts.

“I’m really excited. I got my start at this mountain. It’s my home resort. I learned my first trick, I entered my first competitions, and I went from amateur to professional. I did all of these things here. It’s where I’d come back from a competition I didn’t do well at and learn the next trick that would take me to the top. I’m going to help make it better than ever, and I’m thrilled with the opportunity.”

Shaun started on the snow at age four and was riding the parks at both Bear Mountain and Snow Summit by age six. His first competition was here, his first X Games run was here, and the rest is snowboard history.

"THIS PLACE IS A HUGE PART OF MY UPBRINGING AND MY INTRODUCTION TO WINTER SPORTS."

"I’d show up and there were pro riders here, amazing conditions. It was always sunny and soft. The park was out of control. It’s incredible. There’s an amazing pipe, big jumps, big rails. It’s the first of its kind, and it was right there for me to go up and learn."

We were there early on in action sports, and it was always going off. Shaun recognizes the culture and people at Bear Mountain and Snow Summit for pointing him in the right direction, right from the start.

“A lot of amazing riders came through Bear Mountain and Snow Summit. I remember seeing Terje Haakonsen there, Jeff Brushie. Jimi Scott taught me how to do a McTwist. I don’t know if he remembers, but he taught me. Legends came out of there, and it was just an amazing place to be. I feel fortunate that I had this mountain nearby and that I could access this type of environment where you get to see pro riders, learn from them, ride the terrain that they’re riding and just be a part of it.”

Shaun and his family spent as much time as they could here on the mountain. While he got his laps in and built his reputation one turn at a time, the whole family competed, and it kept them closer than ever.

“We rode as often as we could. Every single weekend we would drive up, and if there were any breaks from school, or if we could call in sick, we would go up."

"The amount of days I was riding was a lot more than someone living on the East Coast. It was our thing. It really kept my family close together. We had snow in common, and everyone could talk about it at the breakfast table. A lot of families don’t have that.”
We like to think we still represent the same world-class snow and Golden State good times that Shaun grew up with—and he agrees.

“Today Bear and Summit keep getting better and better. They were there in the beginning, and they’re still there, delivering an amazing park, great features and great general vibe around the mountain. It’s not like that at every resort.

These two resorts were the pioneers of action sports back at the beginning. They hosted X Games and these huge MTV events. They always had a great pipe and the world’s best would come through. The big innovative things in snowboarding were happening at these two resorts. The park builders are these world-renowned builders now—and they got their start at Summit and Bear.

"IT’S CRAZY MAN. COMING BACK TO THE HOME COURT. NOW THAT I’M INVOLVED, WE HAVE TO DO SOMETHING BIG. GET READY.”

Shaun White got his start with us, right here at Bear Mountain and Snow Summit. We’re excited to have him as a partner. High fives for homecomings—and here’s to great things ahead.
